Six week program of rhymes, songs, music and stories for children aged 0 to 18 months. Registration is not required. The program runs from September 20 - October 28.
MONDAY TODDLER
A five week program of rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and stories for 19 – 35 month olds and their caregivers. The program runs from September 20 - October 28.
WEDNESDAY PRESCHOOL
A six week program of rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and stories for 3, 4, and 5 year olds not yet in Kindergarten. Registration is not required. The program runs from September 20 - October 28.
FAMILY STORYTIME
A four week program of stories, songs and fingerplays for about twenty minutes and then the children will be able to play with toys for about twenty minutes. This storytime is scheduled at the same time as the Kids Book Club so that brothers and sisters can take advantage of this program. All ages are welcome with an adult caregiver. Registation is not required. The program runs from September 20 - October 28.
KIDS BOOK CLUB
Children entering grades K, 1st, and 2nd will read a preassigned book before library time. Then they will take part in a book discussion, activity and book related snack. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants. The program runs from September 20 - October 28. Registration requested (call 440-247-3556). Register
AGING EYE
Just as hair turns gray and skin sags with age, the eyes, too, undergo a metamorphosis as you grow older. Although many of these changes are part of normal aging, some set the stage for more serious eye problems. Nurse educator from the Cleveland Sight Center will come to the Chagrin Falls Branch Library to discuss normal vision changes and the warning signs of eye diseases. FAMILY FRIENDLY BOOK DISCUSSION
Parents and caregivers, join us for a relaxed discussion while the kids play! We will be discussing Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson. Forced to confront the realities of life in the twenty-first century when he falls in love with Pakistani widow Mrs. Ali, Major Pettigrew finds the relationship challenged by local prejudices that view Mrs. Ali, a Cambridge native, as a perpetual foreigner. LEGO CLUB
Join us at the Chagrin Falls Branch Library to build with Legos and Duplos (for preschoolers). Once a month on Saturday we will meet to explore a different construction theme. Open to all children. HISTORY OF THE CLEVELAND BOTANICAL GARDENS
Celebrate 80 years with the Cleveland Botanical Garden’s Librarian, Gary Esmonde, and go down memory lane with boathouses, books, and the famous White Elephant sale. This presentation at the Chagrin Falls Branch Library highlights archival photographs of the Garden’s illustrious past. CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA COMMUNITY CONCERT PREVIEW
Unlock the magic of music that The Cleveland Orchestra will perform for its 2010-11 Opening Night at Severance Hall. This FREE preview at the Chagrin Falls Branch Library, geared to both new and experienced music lovers, will include background on the composers and compositions, plus guided listening to musical excerpts. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about this Cleveland Orchestra program with other music lovers in an informal setting! Our presenter, Rose Breckenridge, earned her Ph.D. in music from Case Western Reserve University and lectures for the Cleveland Orchestra’s Music Study Groups. Rose also is a regular presenter at the concert previews at Severance Hall. The Cleveland Orchestra’s opening night at Severance Hall will feature the exciting ballet score by Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring. ED KAGY
Local artist Ed Kagy, retired advertising executive and graphic designer, will be showing oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings; pastel and needlepoint artwork. Meet the artist, admire his work and enjoy refreshments at the opening reception on Thursday September 9th from 5:00-7:00 PM. The artwork will remain on view from September 3rd through October 28th during library hours.
The Chagrin Falls Branch is located at the end of the path of Riverside Park with a view of the Chagrin River. This gives customers and staff a lovely view of the river from inside the library as well as from the reading deck provided by the Friends of the Chagrin Falls Library. The reading deck is just off the Fiction section of the library and is open when weather permits. It is located on the back of the library, situated away from the street and directly above the park and river. The only access to the deck is through the library.
