Welcome to the Mayfield Branch Library

The Mayfield Branch Library maintains a large collection of fiction and nonfiction books, VHS and DVD recordings, area newspapers and magazines. and microfilm of some area newspapers. We also maintain a collection of large print books and books on tape/CD and Playaway for those who prefer books in these formats. Our library also has access to a collection of full-text books in electronic form that can be browsed online and even 'checked out' to users of our digital collection. Numerous databases can be accessed through our website.

The Mayfield Branch Library displays library-owned works of art throughout the building. The library hosts two long-standing book discussion groups for adults, a writers' group, computer classes and a variety of programs for adults throughout the year. See an Adult Department librarian about bookable, book discussion sets. The Mayfield Branch includes 16 public Internet computers on the first floor and 10 on the second floor.

The Mayfield Branch's Children’s Department offers a large selection of books, magazines, videos, audiocassettes, CDs, DVDs, and CD-ROM products for children. Our large picture book area has educational toys and puppets for use in the library. The Mayfield Branch offers a full schedule of free educational and entertaining programs for children from birth to age 12. Ask the Children's Department staff about our Toy Library and LEAP kits.

The Mayfield Branch Teen Area features a wide variety of materials including magazines, audio books, comic books, graphic novels, fiction and nonfiction. Programs for teens include SAT instruction classes, fun programs, poetry and literature competitions and a popular Anime~Manga Club.

The first library in the Mayfield Village area was a small store front branch on Mayfield Road. In 1968, a $600,000 bond issue was approved. Groundbreaking for the current building occurred on March 7th, 1970.The Mayfield Branch was designed and built in 1971 by Fred Toguchi Associates Architects. The building was the recipient of the 1972 Honor Award from the Architects Society (Ohio chapter of the American Association of Architects). The sculpture in our lobby was created by the artist David E. Davis, 1983. The sculptor dedicated this work of art to Fred Toguchi, who passed away in 1982.

The Mayfield Branch Library has enjoyed the support of an active friends group, Friends of the Mayfield Library, who have provided financial and other support for programs, visiting authors and entertainers, and social events. The Friends sponsor a monthly book sale in the library's meeting room. The library also frequently co-sponsors activities with area schools, parent-teacher organizations, local businesses, and the Chamber of Commerce.

What's New

Where did the cookbooks go?

If you haven't visited us for awhile (and even if you have!) you'll discover many changes regarding where materials are shelved.  Looking for computer information, a cookbook, diet and exercise books and dvds?  Head upstairs to our nonfiction floor!  Need a good novel, want that in Russian?  All fiction is on the first floor (and in new locations).  Please ask for a grand tour and we look forward to showing you where you'll find all you need.

Mayfield High School Yearbooks

We now have a small collection of yearbooks at the library.  It is not a complete set, but we have a variety of years that were generously donated by the Mayfield High School Alumni Association.  Please stop by the first floor Reference desk if you would like to view a yearbook.  If you have yearbooks you would like to donate to the collection please contact the branch manager.
