An important part of libraries is preserving the past. During the Summer of 2011 Cuyahoga County Public Library assisted the Gates Mills Historical Society in scanning old photos and documents. These images can be viewed on the Gates Mills part of the Cleveland Memory website.

WRITERS CENTER STAGE:
Six A-list writers have agreed to bring their thoughts and word craft to Cleveland in an expanded eighth season of Writers Center Stage.
In the Fall of 2011 we had Elizabeth Strout, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her indelible Olive Kitteridge, a novel of linked stories about a retired middle-school math teacher in a fictional Maine small town; Michael Pollan, a food ethicist whose Omnivore's Dilemma set the table for millions of readers followed by his signature book with an elegant set of suggested answers in 2008, In Defense of Food; and Billy Collins, the former U.S. poet laureate. We continue the series in 2012 with the following:
The physician Abraham Verghese, who wrote the popular literary novel Cutting for Stone, will be the fourth speaker, appearing Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
He will be followed by the edgy, path-less-taken crowd-pleaser Anne Lamott, best known for Bird by Bird and Traveling Mercies. She will speak Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
Rounding out the season will be Colm Toibin, author of The Master and Brooklyn. His exquisite prose has made him a literary favorite. He will cap the season Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
