Developing a Career Action PlanThursday, May 31st 6:30 PM This workshop is aimed at those making a career change. This program is a beginning step to identifying career direction, setting goals and making career planning decisions. This workshop will be presented by a Career Center Counselor. Experience Tunisian Crochet:The Look of Knitting with the Ease of CrochetTuesday, June 5th 7:00 PM A one evening workshop on the wonderful art of "Tunisian Crochet", a cross between knitting and crochet. Registrants must be able to use basic crochet stitches in order to participate. Please bring a LONG crochet hook (an Afghan hook or Tunisian crochet hook size H/8, I/9 or J/10 - Joann or Michaels) and a skein of worsted weight yarn, preferably wool or a wool blend in a light color. Join Marjorie Wilson from the cemetery's speakers' bureau, as she brings them back to life in her informative and entertaining presentation. The mini-bios include pre-war life, experiences in the "War of the Rebellion", and postwar careers in Cleveland. The cast of characters includes John D. Rockefeller's youngest brother who enlisted at age 16, two major generals, one of Lincoln's guards who was a confederate, and many other interesting characters. Located in the "Heart of Cuyahoga County," the Independence Branch serves the 11,000+ family-oriented residents of Independence, Cuyahoga Heights, Brooklyn Heights, and Valley View. The city of Independence is second only to Cleveland as a center for business in Northeast Ohio.
The library is a 15,000 square foot colonial style building constructed in 1992. It is adjacent to the Independence Civic Center. The facilities include meeting rooms, quiet study area, and a computer/typewriter room. The library houses a book collection of over 50,000 volumes, and more than 12,000 audio-visual items including books-on-tape/CD, video, DVD, CD-ROM, and music cassettes and CDs. In 2000 the Independence Branch checked out more than 352,000 items to customers.
