We also maintain a collection of large print books and books on CD and Playaway for those who prefer books in these formats. Numerous databases can be accessed through our website.

How to Use the Undocumented Operator AROUND to improve Google Searches

The key to successful searches with Google or any other search engine is knowing how to narrow down the results to something manageable. Searches typically can show thousands or even millions of hits and useful references are often buried far down the list where they will never be seen.

     pizza AROUND(2) restaurant

will return pages with pizza and restaurant separated by two or fewer words. Note that AROUND must be written in all upper case and that the order of the search terms does not matter.  Search terms can also be phrases, provided the phrase is enclosed in quotes.

The “near:” operator in Bing

Bing has a similar operator but it is called “near:” and does not have to be all caps. Note that it contains a colon. Also, the syntax is slightly different from the Google operator. For example, the first search given above would be written this way in Bing:

    pizza near:2 restaurant

Where did the cookbooks go?

If you haven't visited us for awhile (and even if you have!) you'll discover many changes regarding where materials are shelved.  Looking for computer information, a cookbook, diet and exercise books and dvds?  Head upstairs to our nonfiction floor!  Need a good novel, want that in Russian?  All fiction is on the first floor (and in new locations).  Please ask for a grand tour and we look forward to showing you where you'll find all you need.

Mayfield High School Yearbooks

We now have a small collection of yearbooks at the library.  It is not a complete set, but we have a variety of years that were generously donated by the Mayfield High School Alumni Association.  Please stop by the first floor Reference desk if you would like to view a yearbook.  If you have yearbooks you would like to donate to the collection please contact the branch manager.

The Friends of Mayfield Library is an organization of area residents who wish to support the Mayfield Branch and help it continue as a dynamic community resource.

The Mayfield Friends host a monthly book sale at the Mayfield Branch. The sale is held the second Saturday of the first full weekend of the month. The book sale is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We need all the Friends we can get:

  • to stimulate greater interest in the Library
  • to share the Library's needs with the community and the community's needs with the Library
  • to assist in maintaining, improving, and enlarging the Library's resources and services
  • to support the Library's staff in requested areas with our volunteer hours
