Epitaphs

Write an epitaph, for yourself or someone else.

The epitaph is a short elegy, what Lewis Turco calls “terse verse for the long gone,” short enough to be written on a tombstone or an urn. It may be humorous or serious; use rhyme, puns and metaphors – or not.

Wonderful examples abound. Such writing is a dying art, and that’s a shame because it’s a long-standing poetic tradition that can still be used well in our times. Breathe some life into it today.
