The one-story, 11,220 square foot building has an integrated collection of 90,500 items and an annual circulation of 315,000. The building has a large meeting room that non-profit groups may reserve. Used books are for sale at this branch continually as well as during the Friends of the Garfield Heights Library's semi-annual book sale.

A bookmobile served the City of Garfield Heights in the 1920s and 1930s until a branch library opened in the basement of Garfield Park School in 1938. Four years later the library moved into two store fronts on Turney Road. In 1951 a building was constructed on Turney and leased to the library.

A new library building was included in a city capital improvement plan that included a recreation center and a service department garage. When the library building opened at 5409 Turney Road in 1965 with 25,000 books it was the largest branch in the Cuyahoga County Library system. A fire in 1979 closed the building for five months and destroyed two thousand books. Today the 11,000 square foot building holds 90,500 items.

The library was renovated in 1991, and at that time the entrance was moved from the west side of the building to the east side in order to provide better and safer access to the building.
