Les, I saw you at the irridium a little after christmas time and,you were the most warm hearted guy I had ever met.As soon as you saw me you said,"Hey!",then you happily signed my les paul for me!Then,i asked if I could get a picture with you,and without hesitation, you motioned me over, and made a picture that i will remember forever. Then you signed an old les paul and mary ford record called "nola" from the 1950's.As soon as he saw it,he shouted out in exitement,"Did you know that was a big hit in china!"Me and my dad both laughed then les said,"They called me from a temple in china and told me it was a hit!"Then when i went to shake you're hand you kind of hesitated for a few seconds then shook my hand. That was the last and only time I had ever met you les,and I will always treasure that moment in time.

He's a true genius and talented artist. One of a kind. If it weren't for my brother, Dave, being Danny Gatton's drummer for 18 years i would have never met Mr. Polfus. Les, you are a true legend. The moon is high!

I knew he pioneered the electric guitar and that Gibson's famous model was named after him, but until I saw a DVD a friend lent me I was unaware that he came up with multi-track recording. How awesome! and his work with Mary Ford and since is great too! You GO Les Paul!!

On behalf of all The Light Crust Doughboys, past and present, it warms our hearts to see Les Paul continued to be honored as the ultimate symbol of American guitarist-inventor. If the whole world would look to Les as a role model for musician-businessman, our world, our countries, our economies and our industry would be stronger.May blessings continue to flow upon Les Paul. Thanks for being a long-time friend to me and The Light Crust Doughboys. A historic highlight of our music career was when Les told me that his mother told him in the 1930s that her goal for him was to be in The Light Crust Doughboys' and Bob Wills' bands! Now, seven decades later, our goal is to be with Les Paul on stage or in recordings as "Les Paul & The Light Crust Doughboys"! Always your amigos, Les Paul forever, Art & The Light Crust Doughboys www.thelightcrustdoughboys.com

Too often we pin the word “innovative” on the undeserved. Like Miles, Hendrix and Dylan, Les Paul is the real thing – a true innovator. We should honor Les not just because he gave us great music or classic guitars or multi-track recording – we should honor him for his intrepid spirit, and for showing us that magic results when imagination, passion and integrity are wed. The world of popular music has always been filled with dreamers chasing fortune and fame – and that’s fine – but to achieve a lasting legacy requires something more. It matters what you dream about. Les dreamt of an elusive sound, and in the process of chasing it down, he changed the world of music in ways few can match. Thank you, Les. Thank you for doing it for the love of making music and sharing it with others. Congratulations.

American music would not be where it is today without you. You playing is a given, but what you have done with Gibson creating your guitar is without words. Thank you for my love of playing guitar. I have had so many guitars thru the years and it is the Les Paul that keeps me playing!

It’s a pleasure to see Les Paul being honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum. It’s especially good to see the dust and fog of time removed from his legacy if for only one week.  Be sure to listen to ten or twenty of his top ten hits, check out the exhibits, listen to the early night club recordings, watch the film, and attend the concert of adoring super guitarists being given in his honor and discover for yourself what it means to be a GIANT.

If you built a pyramid of all the electric guitar players in the world, including T Bone Walker, B B King, Tal Farlow, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Freddy King, Albert King, Eric Johnson, Jimmy and Stevie Ray Vaughn and anyone else who has touched your soul with an electric guitar, the complete base of the pyramid would be LES PAUL.  Every electric guitar player that has ever existed is standing on Les Paul’s very creative, very strong and very B-R-O-A-D shoulders.   You can find out why in this American Music Masters celebration.

The best thing is you can see him play live every Monday night at the Iridium in Manhattan and find out where the word “chops” was invented.  I know that’s where I’ll be.  See ya in a minute.

Cheers Les!

Steve Miller
