The first library in the Mayfield Village area was a small store front branch on Mayfield Road. In 1968, a $600,000 bond issue was approved. Groundbreaking for the current building occurred on March 7th, 1970.The Mayfield Branch was designed and built in 1971 by Fred Toguchi Associates Architects. The building was the recipient of the 1972 Honor Award from the Architects Society (Ohio chapter of the American Association of Architects). The sculpture in our lobby was created by the artist David E. Davis, 1983. The sculptor dedicated this work of art to Fred Toguchi, who passed away in 1982.

The Mayfield Branch Library has enjoyed the support of an active friends group, Friends of the Mayfield Library, who have provided financial and other support for programs, visiting authors and entertainers, and social events. The Friends sponsor a monthly book sale in the library's meeting room. The library also frequently co-sponsors activities with area schools, parent-teacher organizations, local businesses, and the Chamber of Commerce.
