Friends of the Parma Libraries

Friends of the Parma Libraries was organized in 1961 as a non-profit organization that is composed of persons interested in strengthening the libraries in the Parma area, enhancing the collections, and promoting the use of library services and facilities.

Friends of the Parma Libraries provides funds for special programming at the Parma-South, Parma-Snow, and Parma-Ridge branches. These funds are raised primarily through continuing book sales at all three libraries and the quarterly large book sales at Parma-Ridge.

The Friends Board of Directors meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month in September, October, November, January, February, March, and May.  Call the library at 216-661-4240 for more information.

FRIENDS ACTIVITIES

The Friends of the Parma Libraries sponsors four special book sales per year, in addition to the ongoing sales at each of the three Parma branches. These special sales are held at the Parma-Ridge Branch in February, April, June and October. The sales are held over one or two days, which includes a special advance preview for members only.

In October the Friends group holds its Fall Event and in April hosts the annual Book & Author luncheon. Both programs are open to the public. The Fall Event is free. The Book & Author luncheon tickets are $15 per person.

Funds raised by the Friends of the Parma libraries provide for many special library programs such as performances by Jungle Terry, the For Girls Only programs at the Parma-Ridge Branch, Kindermusik, Winterfest program at the Parma-Snow Branch, babysitting workshops, cartooning programs, the annual teen Monopoly tournaments, and support for summer reading programs for all ages.

In April 2001 the Friends established a Scholarship Fund and awarded two $500.00 scholarships to staff members of the Parma Libraries who are currently attending Kent State School of Library Science to attain their Master of Library Science degrees.

Membership Information

The Friends of the Parma Libraries has a total membership of over 500 people. This includes 70 Life Members. The Board of Directors is comprised of 20 to 25 active members, including the elected officers.   Larger contributions and gifts of memorials are gratefully received.  Applications can be found at any of the three Parma branches or print and submit the following form:
