Ms. Strobel’s nearly twenty-five-year career in public libraries began with a focus on technology at the Medina County District Library (1996-1999) and then the Cleveland Public Library (1999-2005). Her major accomplishments at CCPL include leading the Library’s largest capital improvement program in its history, replacing ten branches and renovating fourteen over seven years. In her role as deputy director, she oversees the Library’s 27 branches as well as its Information Technology, Technical Services and Literacy/Learning Divisions.
“Our national search brought us strong candidates doing remarkable work at libraries in their own communities. Tracy’s demonstrated track record of innovation, advocacy and collaboration made her a true standout among the finalists. We are confident in her ability to lead the organization into the future and excited about the new opportunities she sees for Cuyahoga County Public Library,” said Board president Patty Shlonsky.
Ms. Strobel served as the U.S. representative to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s International Network of Emerging Library Innovators (2011-2013) and recently completed a term on the board of the Public Library Association (2016-2019) and ALA’s Office for Information Technology Policy Advisory Committee (2015-2019). She currently Chairs ALA’s 2020 Census Library Outreach and Education Task Force (2018-2020). She is also a member of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2015. “It’s been a privilege to work side-by-side with Sari and the entire team at Cuyahoga County Public Library for the past 14 years. I’m proud of all that we’ve been able to accomplish,” said Strobel. “I’m honored that the Library Board is giving me the opportunity to advance the organization’s positive momentum as its new leader. Working together with library staff, stakeholders and our communities, I look forward to continuing our legacy of excellence at Cuyahoga County Public Library.”
Executive Director Sari Feldman will retire from her position effective August 2, 2019. She was named executive director in May 2003 and, under her leadership, established Cuyahoga County Public Library as one of the nation’s pre-eminent public library systems.
