Valentina Ranaldi-Adams was born in Akron, Ohio to parents from Arpino, Italy. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the University of Akron  and worked as a computer programmer for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.  Ranaldi-Adams mainly writes short-form poetry such as haiku and senryu.  Her interests in poetry, programming, and mathematics are all based on the concept of precision.  The winner of a Lit Youngstown 2017 Words Made Visible Prize, she has been in publications such as Hessler Street Fair Poetry Anthology, Blithe Spirit, cattails, chrysanthemum, failed haiku, Frogpond, Presence, Ribbons, Wales Haiku Journal, and FemkuMag.
 

 Write a Poem

Write a poem about an artist (painter, writer, dancer, musician) who was an excellent artist but a miserable person OR on a person who was a mediocre artist but a wonderful person, ending with a redemptive characteristic.

How could such beauty
Come from such an ugly soul?
His beautiful landscapes
and joyous faces
Belied the pain he felt inside
Perhaps this was his way
To help others avoid his plague
Brush away his tears
Make peace with a canvas.
